Newsletter No. 35 - February 2026

Dear friends and supporters of DES,

DES was well and competently represented by our member Frank-Christian Hansel at the recent meeting of the Italian Machiavelli Foundation in Rome, which was chaired by its President Daniele Scalea. Intensive discussions enabled us to deepen our contacts with both the host foundation and the representative of the Heritage Foundation in attendance.

Following the conference, I received an analysis by President Scalea, which contains a remarkably knowledgeable and thoughtful interpretation of the speech by US Secretary of State Rubio, but also sheds light on the undesirable developments and dangers that are a burden on both the USA and Europe.

In my opinion, this article is so important that you should know it. Attached you will find it translated in full length.

With warm regards
Erika Steinbach

Invitation to the book reading:

Author: Markus Vahlefeld

Time: 19:00 - 21:30 (admission from 18:30)
Location: Munich (The exact location will be announced upon confirmation of participation.)

Book Description:
„The supposed ideological freedom of liberal democracies actually conceals a view of the world and humanity that threatens humanity in its total mania for feasibility. Markus Vahlefeld reveals why what currently seems like sheer madness in political and sociological terms is the logical consequence of basic assumptions that have been propagated for decades. After all, liberal democracies were never liberal in their practical form. And now they are also turning democracy into a lie.“

Newsletter No. 34 - Status of state funding for DES

Dear members, friends and supporters of our foundation,

Due to many enquiries, I would like to inform you about the current status of state funding for DES.

Since the federal election in February 2025, it has been clear that the DES will finally be entitled to the long illegally delayed state funding from 1 January 2026. We have complied with the deadlines stipulated by law in the Lex-DES Act, as it must be called, and we naturally fulfil all legal requirements.

It seems almost impossible in a constitutional state, but to this day we have not received the funding commitment and certainly not the state funding to which we have been entitled since 1 January under the Foundation Financing Act.

I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Dear members and friends of the Desiderius Erasmus Foundation,

In these days of pre-Christmas preparations, there is often little time for reflection. But we should take the time to do so. Our country and our culture are undergoing dangerous changes in many respects.

For centuries, we in Germany have lived on the foundations of a Christian-influenced Western world. Art and culture, science and research, our towns and villages are shaped by this and have developed on this basis.

But too often, nothing is the same as it used to be. And that's not a statement made to prevent progress, because we need progress, but because we are heading in the wrong direction. Our fundamental traditions are under threat and the foundations that support us are beginning to crumble.

The security measures for our Christmas markets are the most obvious sign of this. Since the Islamist massacre at Berlin's Breitscheidplatz in 2016 and last year's Islamist attack on visitors to the Magdeburg Christmas market, even the most ignorant must recognise that we are in the midst of a culture war. These attacks, as well as the almost countless knife attacks with fatal consequences and gang rapes, have a far over-representative proportion of perpetrators from Muslim countries.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

„Unity, justice and freedom“

web seminar

Date: Thursday, 15 January 2026

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Speaker: Helmut Seifen, retired headmaster.

Our national symbols – a historical treasure to be cherished

In Germany, more than in any other country in the world, the symbols of national identity are being called into question. The German national flag flying on public buildings competes with the rainbow flag, and time and again voices from the political class are heard calling for our German national anthem to be replaced with other lyrics. In his lecture, the speaker explains why this is fundamentally wrong.

Clan warfare in Germany: Are the police powerless?

web seminar

Wednesday, 3 December 2025

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Speaker: Stefan Schubert

Gang wars over territory and criminal business areas were previously almost exclusively associated with American cities such as Los Angeles. But they have long since arrived in Germany too: gangs and groups that fight daily turf wars, deal drugs, extort protection money and engage in pimping: the Black Jackets, the United Tribuns, the Satudarah and the Red Legion, for example.
