Everyone is in favour, no one is against. But what does that mean actually concrete, especially with regard to the political order?

How has political freedom been thought about in the past and how is it being thought about today? Why has liberalism, as the „religion of freedom“ (Benedetto Croce), triumphed across the planet? And why can the suppression of freedoms that were once considered liberal in the classical sense be carried out in its name? Freedom of opinion, freedom of conscience, freedom of the press, freedom of science. Finally, what does the emergence of „post-liberal“ views mean? Do they call „liberal democracy“ into question, and if so, what does that mean? All these questions will be explored in our web seminar. Not in the expectation of finding exhaustive answers, but in the hope of clearing up some of the confusion that has arisen around the term „freedom“.
