You can think whatever you want about gender issues. But the word NOTARZT (emergency doctor) is something like the Holy Grail on emergency vehicles. It serves to quickly convey the message that people need to make way because there is imminent danger! Someone is in such dire need that an ambulance had to be called. Everything must be done to ensure that the emergency ambulance is recognised as such. Not so in Hamburg. There, the professional fire brigade has now decided to stop using the shortest and most concise of all possible designations, „NOTARZT“. It is not gender-neutral!!! There are no known cases of a female emergency doctor refusing to do her duty because she feels discriminated against. Nor have there been any other complaints.
The Hamburg Fire Brigade does not yet know what will replace this on the emergency vehicles. However, as a precautionary measure, the designation for the wrapping of new emergency vehicles has been omitted for the time being. What will the emergency doctors in the Elbe metropolis be called in future? EMERGENCY DOCTOR or EMERGENCY DOCTORNEN or emergency doctorIf you, dear reader, have a striking, gender-neutral suggestion, we will gladly forward it to the Hamburg fire brigade: redaktion@erasmus-stiftung.de
According to information from BILD, most of the Hamburg paramedics reacted with disbelief. In view of the escalating violent crime, one wonders whether there are no real problems in the city on the Elbe. Gender issues are very high on the agenda of the Hamburg Parliament, whose state government has a strong green influence. Thirty-three of the 86 members of the governing parties are members of the Green Party.
Similar to other federal states, there is also a popular initiative against gender neutral language in Hamburg. How did the red-green state government react to this? Together with the Left Party faction, it ensured that the collection of 66,000 signatures for the referendum fell precisely during the summer holidays. What a coincidence!
The opinion research institute Civey conducted a representative survey at the end of last year. According to the survey, 80% of respondents aged 18 and over from across Germany rejected gender-neutral language. In Bavaria, Hesse, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein, gender-neutral language has already been banned in schools and public administration, either completely or in part. But perhaps this has not yet reached Hamburg. What is happening in terms of gender issues on the Elbe is a clear case of „governing against the people“.
