Billions for foreign countries: recipients of German development aid

India is the largest recipient of German development aid payments. According to OECD data, around $1.313 billion went to the world's most populous country – and fifth-largest economy – in 2021.

China, the second-largest economy, is also doing well. The East Asian country received a generous $779 million in 2021. More recent, reliable figures are not yet available. Depending on the source, the figures may vary slightly, depending on the type of survey. Overall, German development aid payments total over $35 billion.
