Erika Steinbach presents the Desiderius Erasmus Foundation.
Under the motto „Political Foundations – Aspiration and Reality,“ chairwoman Erika Steinbach will present the AfD-affiliated Desiderius Erasmus Foundation (DES) in Gera on Tuesday, 29 August.
Not many people are familiar with the political foundations that are now funded by the federal government to the tune of around 700 million euros annually.
According to a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court in February 2023, DES victims are now also entitled to federal funds. In theory, that is, because the federal government is ignoring this ruling and refusing to make the payments.
Regardless of this, Steinbach will present the work of the foundation she heads, which has been exclusively voluntary up to now.
The DES is the only conservative political foundation. It aims to reclaim valid standards and free them from the influences of the zeitgeist, in keeping with the spirit of its namesake Erasmus of Rotterdam. In its five-year history, the DES has already organised around 200 educational events. This has only been possible thanks to the support of numerous donors and the foundation's circle of friends.
Of course, DES also maintains contact with other countries. However, it does not want to open its own branches, even if it had the money to do so. As a member of the European Foundation for Identity and Democracy, it promotes European cohesion for a Europe of fatherlands and will participate in an international congress in Vienna in September.
The event, which is sure to be informative, begins at 7 p.m. in the Old School in Gera.
