lecture evening
Date: Wednesday, 26 March 2025
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Admission from 6 p.m.)
Location: Munich (The exact location will be announced upon confirmation of participation.)
Speaker: Professor Fritz Söllner, Doctor of Political Science
On the subject:
For many German politicians, pursuing national interests is considered indecent and immoral, if not outright denying their existence. Today, values have replaced these frowned-upon interests. They are at the heart of German politics. Speeches and government statements repeatedly refer to »our values« or »shared values« that must be defended and upheld. This fixation on values is also evident in German foreign policy, which no longer follows the motto »live and let live«; instead, the world is to be healed by the German (or European) way of life. By all means, »our values« are to be enforced and other countries are to be persuaded to adopt these values. Do-gooders have become moralists. Whether such a policy also serves our interests is irrelevant or is not even considered.
About the speaker:
Professor Söllner is an economist specialising in public finance. Following a research stay at Harvard University, he now teaches economics at the Technical University of Ilmenau.
He is a member of the Hayek Society and the Association for Social Policy. Since 2021, he has also been a member of the Academic Freedom Network. His academic focus is on tax policy, migration policy, environmental economics and the history of economic thought.
