Nation and nation state in the conflict of ideologies

Weekend seminar in the Friedrichshafen area 2–3 March 2024 If there is renewed debate about the nation today, it is because all the talk about the „post-national era“ cannot hide the fact that the nation is an important foundation of the democratic state and that the nation state is an important building block of the international order.

However, it remains unclear how this came about, what historical conditions led to the emergence of the nation, and what constitutes a modern nation.

The aim of the seminar is to achieve a more precise clarification of the term „nation“, to protect it against misunderstandings and insinuations, and to bring about an understanding of how our own nation can be made fit for the future.
